You watch the day’s headlines and wonder what in the world is going on. Everyone is asking questions. What’s going to happen? What does this mean? Are we going to be safe? But the most important question is: What does the Bible have to say about what’s happening? This quick reference guide by Dr. David Jeremiah will help you understand the headlines through a biblical framework and provide a clear, Scripture-based perspective on the events shaping our world today.
~ Abandoning the Faith ~
Widespread abandonment of Christianity and doctrine mostly by those in the Church or those raised in it. Some are deceived by the world, and some are disillusioned with the faith.
- Biblical Response: We must examine ourselves, encourage each other, and exercise our faith. Remember that God knows whose are His, and He will bring them safely home.
- Related Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:1-2; 2 Corinthians 13:5
~ Cancel Culture/Intolerance ~
Judgment and punishment by people who actively root up, expose, and betray others for their beliefs or statements. Nothing is less loving than public humiliation and pressure to remove people from society.
- Biblical Response: Christians must pray for wisdom, stand firm for the truth, and be courageous.
- Related Scripture: Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:12-13; 1 Peter 4:8
~ Economic Chaos ~
The continued rise of electronic finance, banking, and all-digital currencies. Money plays an essential role in our lives, but we see increased greed, materialism, corruption, inequality, and an addiction to money.
- Biblical Response: Be aware; do not fear. Christians must be prepared to count the cost, be confident, and be content.
- Related Scripture: Psalm 27:1; 1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5-6
~ Globalism ~
The global spread of finance, trade, technology, resources, movements, information, and people all leading towards global governance under the Antichrist. Big Tech companies are unifying global economics, governments, and trade at a rapid speed.
- Biblical Response: Christians should remember that only Christ must be worshiped worldwide and should eagerly anticipate His return to establish His Kingdom. Remember, too, that we have a global mission to spread the Gospel to every nation and people group on earth.
- Related Scripture: Daniel 2:44; Acts 1:9-11; Habakkuk 2:14
~ Immigration ~
An important part of America’s history. Much is owed to the industry, determination, courage, and legacy of many immigrants. The failure to assimilate, the rise of illegal immigration, and the cost of government/social services are the biggest problems.
- Biblical Response: Christians must remember that every person is made in the image of God and love them as Christ loved us yet also respect and honor the law. We are part of a multinational, multilingual family of God, and heaven is our home!
- Related Scripture: Exodus 23:9; Leviticus 18:26; Luke 10:25-37; Revelation 7:9-10
~ Israel ~
God’s chosen people, the Jews, in their Promised Land, Israel. A miracle of the modern world, Israel will be the center of biblical prophecy. Nearly all the Christ-centered future events will occur in Jerusalem, and it will be the place God dwells during His Millennial reign.
- Biblical Response: Christians are awaiting the fulfillment of God’s redemption of His people. We must pray for the peace, protection, and prosperity of Jerusalem.
- Related Scripture: Genesis 17:7-8; Psalm 122:6-9; Ezekiel 36:24-28
~ Persecution ~
A stifling or oppressing because of Christian beliefs or practices through marginalization, threats, lawsuits, intimidation, and/or martyrdom. Millions of Christians around the world are persecuted every day, and the numbers are rising.
- Biblical Response: Christians must remember that Christ Himself was persecuted, and He told us that in following Him we would be too. We must be courageous, be prepared, reevaluate suffering, and live lives worthy of the Gospel.

~ Moral Disorder and Lawlessness ~
Abandoning of truth and unmooring of institutions that have provided safety, security, and success. The rejection of God’s righteousness and justice will cause evil and lawlessness to increase, leaving a trail of broken lives, families, and societies in its wake.
- Biblical Response: Christians must walk as children of the light and be people of goodness, righteousness, and truth.
- Related Scripture: Ephesians 5:8-10; 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
~ Socialism ~
A totalitarian, state-controlled system that seeks to restructure society. It functions on the division of classes and the redistribution of wealth. Under socialist leaders, the freedom of religion, an accurate view of history, the traditional nuclear family, and historical capitalism are all under attack.
- Biblical Response: Christians must remember that all things are under Christ’s control, not human governments. Government leaders are accountable to God, and we are to “give to God what is God’s.”
- Related Scripture: Romans 13:1-7; Matthew 22:21
~ A Godless or God-Resistant Society ~
A loss of hunger for God’s Word and truth in society at large and in the church. People are searching for significance and satisfaction apart from God. When this happens, we lose our heritage, our theology is weakened, and the desire for God’s Word is diminished.
- Biblical Response: Christians must be burdened for a society in darkness, share the Gospel, and be students of Scripture themselves.
- Related Scripture: Amos 8:11; Psalm 63:1-2; 1 Peter 2:2-3
~ Terrorism ~
Radical Islam seeks to dominate the world with their religion through two main methods, jihad and fatah. Jihad is the violent defense of Islam, and fatah is non-violent infiltration through “freedoms” in Western nations.
- Biblical Response: Do not be deceived about the threat. Allah is NOT God and the Qur’an is NOT on par with the Bible. God loves everyone; Muslims are coming to Christ! Pray for the spread of the Gospel!
- Related Scripture: 2 Peter 3:9; Matthew 5:44
~ War ~
The Bible says that dissension will increase in the Last Days and there will be “wars and rumors of wars” (i.e., global warfare). War is horrible, but without just wars, evil is not stopped.

Events that involve the whole world’s population or significant portions—pestilence, diseases, natural disasters. These remind us that we are vulnerable, life is uncertain, and the Bible is true.
- Biblical Response: People will have physical needs when crisis hits, and we should help if we’re able but not forget their spiritual needs. We must pray, serve each other, count our blessings, stay calm, and remain focused on the mission of the Gospel.
