We’ve all done it. Maybe we promised to take the kids to the movies, but the show they wanted to see was sold out. Perhaps a traffic jam caused us to miss an important celebration. Or maybe a long overdue coffee date had to be rescheduled because of an illness. We don’t intend to break our promises, but sometimes unforeseen obstacles make it impossible to keep them.
Intentional or not, our broken commitments can taint our understanding of God’s promises.
According to 2 Peter 1:4, God has not just given us promises, He has given us “exceedingly great and precious promises.” They communicate His power and sustain our faith. They lift our gaze from the challenges we face to God’s infinite love and His endless supply of grace. By revealing what is possible, what has already been promised to us in God’s Word, they equip us to face life’s obstacles with unshakeable confidence. And God’s promises cannot be broken.
God has given us these promises because He wants us to accomplish great things. He wants us to experience His joy and share His priorities. Unlocking the power of God’s unfailing promises in our life is within reach. He has given us everything we need for living a godly life.
