He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.
Micah 7:19
If you were asked to share your life story, which events and moments would you include? The experiences we remember with the greatest clarity are those with the strongest emotions attached to them: the overcoming of obstacles, the losses that left us bereft, and the moments we felt most alive or at peace. Although the choice is often unconscious, we decide the weight and significance of our experiences.
King David chose to hide his sin until the prophet Samuel told him a story about a beloved sheep stolen by a greedy man. God’s truth revealed the true weight of David’s sin. Although there were consequences, David’s cries and brokenness drew him back to God.
When we fail, there is a temptation to allow our failures to define us and our shame to cripple us. The promise we find in David’s life is that God longs to forgive and restore when we come to Him. Let’s invite God’s light into our lives and trust Him to take away our shame and to forgive us wholly and completely.
Let not your sense of sin make you think little of my Master. You are a great sinner, but He is a greater Saviour.
