No subject has occupied the minds and pens of poets, authors, songwriters, and novelists more than the subject of love. But our culture is confused about the nature of true love—and Christians also oftentimes confuse the true nature of God’s love.
The Bible states that God is love (1 John 4:8; 1 John 4:16). Not only that but love is mentioned in the Bible about five hundred times! Understanding God’s love is vital to fully appreciating all He has done for us. You cannot truly understand God without comprehending His great love.
The Bible offers one truth about love that is found nowhere else in the world’s literature: a benchmark for love. Not a definition, but a way to measure love—a way to compare it to something permanent and perfect. Without such a benchmark, love is left to the whims of human feelings and desires. In such a case, love can change with circumstances and our response to them. We need an anchor for love—a timeless way to think about love that can shape our actions and resist the pressure of culture.
As we focus on adopting God’s love in our lives, we will learn to showcase it to others. When we are filled with overflowing love, it is normal to want to share it with others. You can download the exclusive God Loves You coloring page and share it with those around you—especially those who might not know the Lord.
